About Home Theatre Bay Area

Home Theatre Bay Area is a local directory of home theater installers and AV integrators serving the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are weighing options for a home theater build, surround sound setup, or whole-home AV system, this directory gives you a starting point grounded in actual Bay Area companies, not national lead-gen aggregators that funnel you to whoever paid the most.

The directory is organized by sub-region and service type so you can find installers who know your area, understand local building conditions, and have a track record of residential work in the Bay.

We built this for homeowners who are at the research phase: not quite ready to call anyone yet, but trying to understand who the credible local players are before they start getting quotes.

How We Select Listings

Every company in this directory meets a basic set of criteria before it gets listed:

  • Active Bay Area presence. A verifiable local address or established service territory in the region, not just a national company with a Bay Area checkbox on a form.
  • Residential installation focus. Companies listed here do home installations. Commercial-only integrators are outside our scope.
  • Verifiable contact information. A working phone number and website. If we cannot confirm basic contact details, the company does not get listed.
  • Home theater or AV specialty. General handyman services or electricians who occasionally hang a TV are not a match. Listed companies specialize in AV integration, home theater design, or structured wiring for residential audio and video systems.

Featured listings are clearly marked throughout the directory. Featured placement is a paid option, but it does not affect which companies get listed. A company that meets the criteria goes in regardless of whether it upgrades to a featured spot.

Bay Area Coverage

This directory covers the core sub-regions of the Bay Area. You can browse by location or search within your area:

  • East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton)
  • South Bay (San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Cupertino)
  • Peninsula (Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Mateo, Burlingame)
  • San Francisco (city proper, including Noe Valley, Pacific Heights, Richmond, Sunset)
  • Marin (San Rafael, Mill Valley, Novato, Sausalito)
  • North Bay (Napa, Sonoma, Santa Rosa, Petaluma)

Bay Area housing creates conditions that make home theater installation more involved than in many other markets. Older housing stock, particularly Victorian, Craftsman, and Mid-Century Modern homes, often means limited or inaccessible wall cavities, lathe-and-plaster rather than drywall, and electrical panels that predate modern AV power demands. Unlike most of the country, the Bay Area has virtually no basements, which removes the most common location for equipment racks and dedicated theater rooms. Installers have to work with what is there: attics, crawl spaces, closets, and in some cases, exterior conduit runs.

Seismic considerations also factor into how AV equipment is mounted and secured. A 75-inch display on a standard wall mount becomes a liability issue in earthquake country. Experienced Bay Area installers account for this in their hardware selection and mounting approach.
